Manual Testing

Manual testing technique is one of the oldest as well as the most rigorous type of software testing techniques, commonly used in all software organizations. Manual testing is a human approach which helps to discover and record software bugs and discrepancies related to functionality of the product. It plays a vital role in discovering defects. Testers play the major role by considering themselves as end users. They use almost all the features of the application to ensure that it behaves in the required manner.

For the comprehensiveness of testing, the testing team first understands functionality and aspect of program then prepares a test plan. Testers follow a written test plan which leads through a set of test cases, areas to be tested, areas not to be tested, objectives of test plan, setting of test environment and preparation of test data that has to be used for execution of test cases with proper reporting of the software’s severity and priority. In the end, the testers compare expected result with actual result and formulate test reports, bug reports and test documentation.

Being a tester, it is advisable to employ manual white box testing and black-box testing techniques on the test software. There is no complete substitute for manual testing as its major advantage being, it can be used for both small and big software projects on a minimum cost. Hence, it will always remain a crucial technique for testing software applications thoroughly.
