Linux is growing and evolving. High-performance computing system (Linux) is replacing UNIX and other operating systems in current-generation supercomputers. Maybe in coming decade, Linux could become the OS of choice for various products and services.

OpenWrt is an open source and Linux-based operating system. This OS has been designed to run on hundreds of networking devices such as routers, switches, and other embedded equipment. OpenWrt is loaded with advanced features providing more control over the software running on the hardware.

OpenWrt 18.06 is the latest OS released with a bunch of updated features.

Highlights of OpenWrt 18.06:

  • OpenWrt 18.06 incorporates a fair number of bug fixes

Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging segment in the technology arena. OpenWrt can be the final component that can make the Internet of Things a reality. IoT has developed a need for a robust operating system capable of managing vast computation, and controlling multiple processors on one machine along with providing high-throughput networking stack. OpenWrt is providing complete and convincing solutions as an alternate to the IoT hardware systems.

OpenWrt comes with the Linux kernel versatile and easy to tweak. It can be adjusted/customized according to the projects’ requirements. Moreover, OpenWrt is a cross-compilation-friendly OS. Therefore, it can be brought to any given platform with low maintenance solutions in terms of hardware resources.

OpenWrt is the OS solution for various connected devices, wearables, smart home devices, cars and in places of business. This operating system is built to support almost any hardware or peripheral. However, it is not a plug-and-play OS, and certainly requires an investment of labor.

Shriv ComMedia Solutions is handling a variety of OpenWrt projects. And, we know how much of hard work and strategic approach is needed to make the embedded system programming using OpenWrt OS, a success.
